Today was Read-A-Thon! 1st graders showed up at school in their pajamas, with their favorite stuffed animals and books, for a fun day filled with lots of reading!!!
Marc, one of our LES bus drivers, came in to visit, and gladly accepted the invitation to read to the class. What fun to have a guest reader in our class!
We made Dr. Seus hats and walked around the school to show off our new creation. Happy Birthday Dr. Seus! In honor of him, we had lots of time to partner read Dr. Seus (and other) books with a friend.
And then our 4th grade reading buddies came in! We are studying Bears right now, and our reading buddies helped us make a very cute Bear craft.
We ended our day with a trip to the gym for an all school assembly. 6th graders performed a Dr. Seus skit for us!
And then, of course, just a little more time reading before we headed off for the weekend. Great job 1st graders! You are all becoming better readers every day!

Several times a week we begin our class meeting by asking each other, “How are you feeling?” Children choose a feeling on this poster or add a new one, and share why they are feeling that way. It is a wonderful community builder and also a great way for the children to practice self expression. On Monday one boy said, “I’m feeling grateful. I’m so glad to be back at school with my friends.” That was true for many of us after that really long February break!
These children are feeling pretty proud. We got together in small groups today to work cooperatively with our classmates on an assignment. Each child had a special job to do–being a reader, a recorder, or a listener. Their task was to read and record information about a special bear’s habitat. This group is presenting to the class what they learned together about brown bears. We learned a lot about bears. We also learned a lot about how to work in a group. Ask your child about it!

Presidents’ Day is coming up so we took out a puzzle made of blocks. Each block has a picture of a President, along with his name and some interesting facts. If you put the blocks back in the correct order, starting with George Washington and going all the way up to Barack Obama, you get a picture of the American Flag. This happy crew made it happen.
