1st Grade Parents,
Please look for a summer reading challenge coming home with your child today. I am trying to encourage the kids to read every day this summer to keep up the excellent progress they made as readers this year. This reading time can include any of the following:
*your child reading quietly alone
*your child reading aloud to someone else
*you reading a book to your child
*or a combination of the above
If you have any questions, or need suggestions for good books for your child to read which are at his/her reading level, please let me know and I’d be happy to send suggestions. Also, please remember that this Scholastic site (http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/) will have recommendations for you based on reading level, and don’t forget the library! Lots to choose from there.
Happy Reading This Summer!!!

Our number one goal for our last 9 days as first graders is to have FUN! Today we did that by heading out to the woods for a hike. There is a short loop right behind our school that was perfect for today.
Here are some pictures from Monday…..
Trying to decide which book to read for Author’s Breakfast.
And playing some favorite math games with friends. I always enjoy these end of the year days when the kids know the classroom so well and are truly enjoying time with their friends at school.

Thank you to everyone who came in today to help us celebrate a great year of writing with our first graders. This year the children learned about writing true narratives, non-fiction teaching books, opinion pieces and poetry. Today’s guests got to hear our young writers read some of their books. What a fun morning for our class! So glad you could share in our excitement.
Wear comfy shoes to school tomorrow. We are heading out to the woods to take a short hike, relax and celebrate a job well done!
