Thank you to all families who were able to join us for Open House! I look forward to talking with you more about your child’s progress at Parent Teacher Conferences coming up soon. Here is a quick snap shot of our week at school in First Grade!

- Reading homework started this week! You should have seen this bright colored bag come home with your child’s reading book in it. Please return it to school the next day!

- We made a beautiful butterfly…..

- that is now hanging out in the hallway outside our classroom.

- The children wrote all their Hopes and Dreams for the year on the wings. We are ready to change and grow just like a butterfly!

- In math we are exploring new math materials……

- by combining shapes to see what new shapes we can make.

- We are drawing with shape templates.

- Using geoboards and rubber bands to create shapes that can make interesting designs.

- The children learned how to write tallies and played a game called Rock, Paper, Scissors. They used tallies to record each turn.

- This is our new computer lab teacher, Mr. Mwangi! We are so happy he is joining us at Leverett.

- We took out the bug glasses to make pretty pictures with our bug stamps.

- Using art materials, we designed our own bugs, making sure that our bug had all the parts insects need to survive in their habitat.
-
- Then our new bugs found a home in the insect habitats we made for them.

- We took a walk through our “museum” to admire the work of our friends.
