If your 1st grader comes home today and reports that we learned a line dance so we can be part of a Flash Mob, I wouldn’t be surprised if you started wondering…….Really??!! Our awesome 3rd Grade teacher, Tracey, is organizing a line dance for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders to do as a “surprise” at field day. We marched down to her room today to learn the dance. Oh, the smiles on the kids’ faces when they heard about this! I’ve never been part of a Flash Mob before. I guess there’s a first time for everything! Field Day fun is next Wednesday, June 12th!!

We have been busy at work this week getting ready for our Author’s Breakfast. On Monday, I was walking down the hall with the class and someone stopped us to ask, “I hear you’re having an Author’s Breakfast next week. Who’s the author that is coming?” I pointed to the first graders and said, “They are.” Everyone smiled. Our 1st Grade authors have worked very hard for this day!
This week our young writers have been going through our classroom collection of “published books” to find all the books they have written. Each writer took all his/her books and created a writing portfolio to keep them in. Once they each created a portfolio, they had to reread all their books and pick the one they would like to read for our guests on Monday. So when you come in on Monday we will all gather around the children and each writer will be given the chance to come up and read one of his/her books to us. We will listen. Afterwards, each writer will take a couple of questions or comments from the audience.
After the reading you are welcome to sit with your child to see what else is inside his/her portfolio. We will have simple breakfast foods available. If you can, please bring in fruit, muffins or juice to share with the group. This is always my favorite day of the year in 1st Grade! I hope you can join us!
