We presented our Bear Projects today to the 2nd Grade and to our family guests. The kids did a wonderful job. Our posters and books are now hanging out in the hall. If you were not able to make it in today, come take a look any time you are at school. Your child can read her/his information report to you.

We learned a new math game! We are learning how to describe a shape by its attributes. We played a game where one partner had to make a pattern, describe it, and the other partner had to make the SAME pattern without looking! It was a lot of fun.
We also spent Wednesday morning finishing up our Bear unit. Our final project was to make a sign, introducing our Bear to a new exhibit at a zoo. The kids had to work on this poster as a team. It was a lot of work! Come in Friday at 10:00 and we will present them to you!!
It looks like chaos, but they were working really hard on this!

This puzzle has been on our social studies/science shelf for a long time. But it is still a favorite!
We are getting ready to publish a favorite Teaching Book soon. Before we begin, each child had to go through all their stories and pick out a book they felt showed their very best non-fiction writing. Who better to turn to than our writing partners! Here you will see children reading their books to their writing partner to get some advice….Which book do you think is my best work???
In Fundations we learned some new glued sounds today. Ask your child about them. Maybe you can practice making some words that have these sounds.
Look at this neat tile board! These are all the sounds we have learned so far.
It’s always wonderful to end your week with a love note! I came back from bringing the kids to the bus and found this waiting for me. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Look at these informational reports we did today on Bears. Each child took their research notes from last week and completed their own report. Come in next Friday at 2:30 and we will read it to you. You may learn some new things about Bears!!
We have a new math game called “Money Magic”. Children roll a dice and collect pennies, then trade them in for nickels, dimes and quarters as they keep rolling to reach $1.00. I heard many kids say, “This is actually fun!”. I love hearing that! Math is lots of fun in 1st grade.
We had a special visitor come in today. Helene Cousin, Logan’s Mom, is a research scientist at UMASS and she teaches anatomy there. She came in to tell us about the frogs and tadpoles she is studying. She used cool words like metamorphosis and brought live animals in with her, which got us all jumping with excitement and questions. Then she showed us some animal skulls that she is using with her students. We got to guess which animal they were from and we even got to touch them. Wow! What an exciting morning!
