This week we went on line to watch videos of bears in action.  We used this information to jot down notes that we could later add to our research books, which are coming along.  I can’t wait for you to see them!

Unfortunately, we had a couple pipes burst at school this week which left several classrooms unusable and our school looking a little like a construction zone.  The kids and I took a walk around the building to have a look.  Luckily, it has not interfered with our school day at all and it has been business as usual in first grade.

Except, with a HUGE new pile of snow outside our classroom window which resulted from the crews shoveling the roof overhead.  We look out our windows and all we see is SNOW!IMG_3099 IMG_3098 IMG_3096 IMG_3095

This is the cool new interactive board we have in our classroom.  It will be fully up and running soon and the kids will be able to use it to manipulate pictures on the board and for all kinds of cool stuff that I am still learning how to do as well.  We will learn together!

So much fun to be had all in one day!  Here are some super cute pictures from our cozy day.  Making hot cocoa, lots of reading in our pajamas with our stuffed animals, making Valentines and receiving so many special notes from our friends.  Couldn’t have been better!

We saw some EXCELLENT 100 Day of School projects come in over the past week.  Each child made something using 100 objects.  It’s always a lot of fun seeing which objects they choose to use and what they choose to make.  It’s different every year.  Everyone presented their project and then took questions and comments from their classmates.  Projects are now hanging in our room or displayed on a shelf.  Come take a look!IMG_3001

In between snow days, late starts, and 100 Day of School celebrations, we’ve also been able to squeeze in a little work time!  Writing partners met to share chapters they are writing in their non-fiction teaching books.  These are the two questions each student asked their partner after reading a chapter to them that they had written.  Partners then gave feedback .

Our Bear research continues.  Children are meeting in groups to talk about the information they found, answering this big question.  IMG_3013IMG_3012Next up, Valentine’s Day!  Work’s already begun to create beautiful Valentines to bring home to our families on Friday.  I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I think you will LOVE them! IMG_3034  IMG_3044IMG_3045 IMG_3048IMG_3022
