Yesterday was our field trip to Northfield Mountain. Thanks so much to all the parents who joined us and helped out in many ways throughout the day.
We spent time collecting small insects and animals from the pond.
Then we brought our animals inside to observe them up close and record what we saw.
We had lunch in a yurt and had some play time outside.
Then we took a hike in the woods. We even found a few challenges to do along the way like a balance beam and some monkey bars. And, our hike ended with a yummy snack of lemonade, cookies and watermelon.
Today we came back to the classroom and used what we learned to make our own picture of a pond. You will see them coming home today.
The field trip and snack were all paid for by Harvest Festival funds. Thanks again for all your support. The kids really had a wonderful time. There were lots of smiles when we got on the bus to head back to school!

We had an excellent trip out to the vernal pool today to explore and find out what kind of animal and plant life lives there. It was great practice for our field trip to Northfield Mountain next Thursday. Please look for the permission slip in your child’s backpack today!
We brought a lot back to our classroom to observe up close.
In math, we have started studying polygons and the attributes that define shapes. Teams worked together to build polygons using straws and pipe cleaners, then played a game of “I Spy” using attributes to describe their shapes.
In writing, we are well into our unit on opinion writing. Look at all the strategies we are learning to use in our writing when trying to convince your reader!
