Look who came into first grade this week!  Helen Ann from the Hitchcock Center visited with some animal friends to teach us about how animals adapt to winter.  Then we went out to the woods to look for signs of animal life in the woods behind our school.  Later this week, during a science lesson, we pretended to be birds and used two different kinds of beaks to try to get “food” into our “stomachs” (paper cups).  Which beak worked better?  Why?  These are some of the questions we asked as we thought as scientists do and talked about how animals use their body parts to get what they need.
