The past couple of weeks we have been working on a social studies unit called “People Who Worked For Justice”.  The children learned about several American heroes who helped work for fairness and justice in our country’s history.

Also, we have some wonderful community volunteers who are coming in to work with the First Grade as “Courtyard Keepers”.  They will take a few kids at a time to go out into the LES courtyard to be our gardeners and help make it more beautiful as our class community service project  for our school.  Welcome SPRING!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us for the Bear Museum.  It was wonderful to have so much family support and excitement for our project.  One first grader said to me at the end of the day, “Alissa, you spoiled us with fun today.”  And that was the most exciting part.  In addition to how much we learned about animal adaptations and how to write a chapter book, it was so much fun!  Thanks for being a part of it with us.

Preparations for the Bear Museum are underway!  The kids are so excited and we hope you can join us.  Our Bear Museum will be open on Friday, March 8, from 9:00-10:00 in the LES Library.

In Fundations we are learning how to spell words using glued sounds:  letters that come together to form one sound like in –ing.

Finally, a beautiful love note that absolutely made our week from  a creative first grade artist!
