Thank you so much to everyone who came to celebrate Author’s Breakfast with us!  It was so wonderful to feel the joy in the room.  After everyone left, I asked the kids to share one word about how they were feeling and the word I heard the most was PROUD. What a great success.  They worked so hard this year as readers and writers, but what impressed me the most was their BRAVERY!

On Monday, we packed up our tadpoles, who grew into frogs!!  (This still amazes me very year!)  We walked over to Leverett Pond, and sent them off with wishes for a happy life in the pond.  Then we stayed to enjoy snack in the beautiful woods.

A few more close up shots of the beautiful work the kids did with Marla creating a Pond Mural…..

Today was our last day of school.  We had many mixed emotions of happiness, excitement, sadness…  We made special books and delivered them to people who will no longer be working at Leverett School next year:  Ms. Lacey, Miss Sherri and Molly.  Then we had a “Frisbee Signing Party” to say goodbye to our friends for the summer.

Please make sure to check the backpacks for summer homework!

Happy Summer, SECOND GRADERS!!  I will miss you all so much!  🙂

Here is a quick glimpse of some Field Day fun!  I was in the woods at the stream helping kids look for animals in the water.  Up on the playground, there were many games for the children to enjoy and then we all had a picnic lunch together outside.

We are also doing a new unit on poetry.  One day we took our clipboards outside to write poems about trees, out in our very own courtyard.

In the classroom, we are studying pond life.  We are so lucky to have a talent artist, Marla, working in our classroom.  She is helping the kids make the most beautiful pond mural.  Please come take a look at all their hard work and the creative detail they are using to represent pond life.

Here are some more pictures from our field trip.  Thanks to Vi’s mom for many of the photos!  The kids had a great day of learning, discovery and hiking out in nature at Northfield Mountain.  We even had a yummy lemonade and watermelon snack at the end of a fun day together out in the woods.

Hope to see you at Author’s Breakfast this Friday at 8:45 in our classroom!  Come join us as we celebrate all the kids’ hard work this year.  🙂
